Ekspozitë e studenteve Çekë, Polakë, Gjermanë të Studienkolleg zu Berlin mbi Tiranën, një program i Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes dhe Fondacionit Hertie. Punët janë ekspozuar edhe në Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften në Berlin , dhe në Ambasadën Gjermane Tiranë (www.physisstadt.org). Ekspozimi në U-POLIS do ti shërbejë komunikimit më të gjerë publik të këtij projekti me qytetarët dhe profesionistët e Tiranës. Ekspozita shoqërohet me një prezantim dhe kotejl.

On 23 October 2009 – Expo Physis Stadt Tirana (in the framework of German October Activities)

Exhibition of Czech, Polish and German students of Studienkolleg zu Berlin , about Tirana. A project of Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and Hertie Foundation. Their works are also exhibited in the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin and in the German Embassy of Tirana in a framework of German-October activity. U_POLIS has created also a space for such project in order to extend the exhibition contact to broader public and proffesional networks of Tirana. Exhibition followed by a presentation and cocktail.

Panairi i 12-të i librit, “Tirana 2009” do të mbahet më 12-16 nëntor në Pallatin e Kongreseve, ku do të marrin pjesë mëse 100 subjekte botuese nga të gjitha hapasirat shqiptare. Gjatë një konference për shtyp, kryetari i shoqatës së botuesve shqitarë, Petrit Ymeri bëri me dije se këtë vit është premtuar mbështetje financiare nga Ministria e Kulturës dhe Bashkia e Tiranës.Një vëmendje e veçantë këtë vit pritet t’i kushtohet sallave të promovimeve përgjatë ditëve të panairit, aktivitete që do të mbahen orë pas ore në çdonjërën prej ditëve të tij.

Duke e konsideruar si ngjarjen më të rëndësishme kulturore të përvitshme, sic është bërë traditë tanimë, organizatorët mendojnë edhe për një shkrimtar i cili është i ftuari i nderit i këtij manifestimi të librit shqip. Këtë vit në panair do të jetë i pranishëm një ndër shkrimtarët më të njohur italianë, Frederico Moçia (Frederiko Moça) i cili paraprakisht ka konfirmuar praninë e tij përgjatë ditëve të panairit dhe është përkthyer në shqip nga shtëpia botuese “Dituria”.

I pyetur për titujt e rinj në këtë panair, kryetari i shoqatës së botuesve, Petrit Ymeri pohoi se doemos që numri i titujve të rinj gjatë 1 viti është tkurrur për pasojë edhe titujt e rinj në stenda do të jenë më pak se vitet e shkuara, e kjo sipas tij ka ndodhur për shkak të krizës ekonomike që e ka prekur librin shqip pasi ka rënë numri i lexuesve, çka reflektohet në shitjen e librave në libraritë e Shqipërisë.

New Europe College - Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest, Romania, is organizing a regional symposium, From Traditional Attire to the Modern Dress: Modes of Identification, Modes of Recognition in the Balkans (XVI-XXI Centuries). Please find further details concerning this event below.

The symposium is scheduled to take place on 13-14 June 2008 at the New
Europe College, 21 Plantelor str., 023971 Bucharest, Romania. Our aim is to gather scholars from prestigious research institutes and universities in Central and South-eastern Europe (but also outside it), who work on such topics. Should you be interested to take part in this symposium, we kindly ask you to send us the title of your contribution and a short abstract (200-300 words), together with a one-page CV (including title, positions, institution, degrees, awards, main publications) until 31 January, 2008. The selection committee will inform you about their decision in due time (by the end of February at the latest).

The working languages of this international symposium will be French and English. The organizers will cover travel and accommodation expenses within the limits of the budget. We would be grateful if you could also find additional financial support for participating in our symposium.

From traditional attire to the modern dress: modes of identification, modes of recognition in the Balkans (XVI-XX Centuries)

Convener: Constanþa Vintilã-Ghitulescu, historian, researcher at the Nicolae Iorga Institute of History, Bucharest, NEC and GE-NEC alumna

According to a Romanian saying, “dress doesn’t make a person”. True as it may be, the moral implications of this saying are of less concern to us here than its possible social significance, which would rather suggest its reading in the affirmative. In the past, dress was an important social indicator. It told a lot about the social condition, the status of a person, her wealth. But dress can also provide information on the evolution of a society, on the dynamic interrelation between fashion and social behavior. Dress can thus become the prime matter for the analysis of a society through the joint efforts of historians, anthropologists, ethnologists, and sociologists.
The Balkans, a cultural, ethnic and social mosaic, provides an ideal setting for such a research. One can find here similarities at a regional level, and wide differences coexisting in proximity, in the same geographic region. An oriental mode of dressing, induced by Ottoman occupation or domination, was taken over by the elites of a community as a token of loyalty towards the regime; side by side with it, one could find a diversity of “folk” costumes, the garb of the “common people”. As the Ottoman Empire declined, dress became one of the major means of asserting the emancipation of the former subjects and the modernization of the Balkan societies, of expressing the mental changes taking place within them. In a Europe of nations, the “folk” costumes became bearers of political and ideological meaning, emblems of the newly established nations. Their instrumentalisation didn’t end with the 19th century, however. In some cases, they were rediscovered by the Communist
regimes and put to use in the construction of a novel identity.

The symposium proposes to gather researchers from various fields, and from a number of academic and research centers in South-Eastern Europe and in other parts of the world, inviting them to focus their reflections on dress and its role in social, political, and ideological change, on the lines suggested below:

A. The significance of dress in the establishment and acceptance of a political regime
1. the “oriental dress” and the modes of representation of a social elite
2. “from oriental attire to the tail coat”: dress as an indicator of modernization

The preservation of local identities in an enlarged European Community has become a growing concern. Can dress still define social categories and peoples? Or do certain types of traditional dress become mere museum objects? Do they find refuge in a handicraft that reinvents and refashions an idealized, barely known, largely imaginary past? The symposium will attempt to investigate the ways in which dress entered the political, social and cultural play; the major role attributed to dress by social actors in a more or less distant past, and within its various constructions; its instrumentalisation in modern times, in search of identity. The Balkans, where an earlier common history developed into a variety of distinct trajectories, are a particularly propitious field for such a research, which may shed some light on certain peculiarities of “Balkanism”.

The Academy of Economic Studies presents the Second Edition of Bucharest Summer University, that will take place between August 20th and September 3rd 2006, in Bucharest, Romania.

BRIEF INFORMATION ON ACTS PROGRAMME

The course is designed for people who want to develop skills and
wider competence they need to build greater peace and justice in
their own communities and countries. Participants will be working in
fields such as peace, human rights, and development, or looking for
ways to become engaged in these, or related fields.

Organisations involved in these activities also have interest in
ACTS as participation in this programme will improve their
efficiency and competence in the field.

ACTS programme is implemented in different regions in the World: the
Balkans, East Africa and SE Asia. In each of these regions, ACTS
will focus on specific regional and local issues.

There are no racial, ethnic, religious or gender restrictions to
participate in the ACTS programme. It is desirable that participants
come from different ethnic groups. As ACTS is region-oriented
programme it will provide great benefit not only to the local staff,
but also to international activists who work in the region as they
will get better insight into local issues.

Because participants and tutors will be of different nationalities
and the reading list is in English, the course will be held in the
English language. That is why it is a prerequisite for all
participants to be fluent in English.

ACTS is a two-year part-time course. The first year of the course
will focus on three core topics, which will have both global and
local content. Throughout the first year participants will be
introduced to the Action Research methodology and will have the
opportunity to engage in it through small research projects.

The second year of the course will also consist of three modules,
which will focus on one major Action Research project.

These modules are:

The First Year :

· Building the foundations: Theories of conflict, conflict
transformation skills and action research methodology,

· Conflict, Power and Change: Engaging with Actors, Systems,
Structure and Policies,

· Designing and Facilitating Conflict Transformation Processes;

The Second Year :

· Action Research,

· Building theory from practice,

· Action Research results and taking it forward.

Each module consists of a ten-day workshop and work-based
application of
knowledge and individualised reading related to action research.

During the residential component of the modules three tutors will
guide the day-to-day process. Two of the tutors will be from the
region, and the third will be an international tutor.

Local academics and other resource people will be invited to share
their expertise for specific sessions, as required by the learning
needs of the group. Tutors from the region are from the University
of Novi Sad and Nansen Dialogue Network, and international tutors
are from Responding to Conflict (UK).

For satisfactory completion of the course, participants will be
required to:

· participate actively in all sessions of all the modules

· keep a learning journal during the course which reflects their
learning and their personal responses

· complete three assignments which are formally assessed. Each of
these is related to the action research being undertaken

· complete an Action Research project. This will be presented to
their "learning group" and to the wider peace building community in
the final workshop at the end of year two.

Completion of the course will result in a Master's degree.

Organisations interested in the aforementioned field are invited to
support their employees, financially and in any other ways as
knowledge and skills offered by ACTS will bring them certain benefit
in their future work.

The objective of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is to share the EU's stability, security and prosperity with neighbouring countries in a way that is distinct from EU membership. It is designed to prevent the emergence of new dividing lines in Europe by offering neighbouring countries closer political, security, economic and cultural co-operation.

Pursuing the ENP will call for major economic and political reforms in our partner countries, which the EU will support through financial and technical support, opening of markets and providing access to Community programmes where possible.

Mykolas Romeris University organizes 3d International Scientific Conference of Junior Researchers "EU and its' New Neighborhood: Addressing Challenges and Opportunities". It aims to explore the political, economic, cultural, legal, trade, security and spatial aspects of broadly understood new neighborhood, from different scientific perspectives.

The event will take place in the capital of Lithuania Vilnius on October 18-22, 2006. The number of participants is expected to reach 50 - 70, coming from the universities of EU members and EU new neighbors. The participants will be able to choose from six thematic workshops, each exploring a different aspect of the main theme of the conference:

Political reform: strengthening democracy, good governance and dialogue on human rights;

Economic reform: including promoting a good business and investment climate;

Since the presentation of the first European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) Action Plans in 2004, the policy is proving its worth as a key instrument to promote good governance, economic and social development in countries around the EU's land and sea borders. The ENP aims to build a zone of increasing prosperity, stability and security in the EU's neighbourhood, in the interests of both the neighbouring countries and of the EU itself. It offers partners a relationship that goes beyond cooperation to include closer political links and an element of economic integration, as well as assistance with reforms to stimulate economic and social development. In turn, ENP partners accept precise commitments to strengthen the rule of law, democracy and the respect for human rights, to promote market-oriented economic reforms, to promote employment and social cohesion and to cooperate on key foreign policy objectives such as counter-terrorism and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction

Please take a few minutes to learn about the only Peace Prize in the world to and from students.

The Student Peace Prize is to be awarded for the fifth time during the International Student Festival in Trondheim (ISFiT) 2007. The prize is awarded every second year on behalf of all Norwegian students, and is the only peace prize in the world to and from students. In giving this prize we wish to highlight the important role of students in the struggle for peace, democracy and human rights. Students efforts are widely underestimated, even though students often have the ability and opportunity to think differently, and thus to create a more peaceful world. Awarding the Peace Prize helps to get support and recognition for idealist students who work for peace and basic rights. The Peace Prize receives nominations from all over the world, and we make a tremendous effort to learn about good candidates. The nominee must be a student or a student organization who or which has made an outstanding contribution to peace, democracy or human rights.

A committee consisting of students and prominent persons in Norwegian politics and society chooses the winner of the Student Peace Prize 2007. The recipient receives an invitation to come to Norway to accept the prize at the Peace Prize Ceremony during ISFiT 2007, and will also travel throughout Norway to meet with important organizations and decision makers.

Previous winners have met with the Norwegian Prime Minister, the Minister of Development and the crown prince Haakon Magnus, to name a few. The media is very attentive to the Peace Prize and its winners. Receiving this prize is a unique opportunity to make contacts, increase media awareness and spread knowledge about oneself and the situation in one's home country.

During the month of May, the Mjaft Movement will engage in a
nation-wide campaign for the protection of the environment, aiming
at: (I) raising the awareness of citizens, and sparking their
interest on problems related to the environment; (II) changing the
behavior of citizens and encourage positive attitudes toward
environment; (III) mobilizing the communities to undertake volunteer
work, to keep their towns clean; (IV) facilitating the dialogue
between the citizens and the institutions, with the objective to
raise public participation in the decision-making process over
environment issues.

To achieve the above, MJAFT has planned to implement the following activities:

- A nation-wide Environment caravan, which will start in Tirana, and
travel to the towns of Shkodres, Rreshen, Peshkopia, Durres,
Pogradec, Berat, Vlora, Gjirokastra, Korca, and Fier.
- Public Forums in these towns, between the local authorities and the
citizens, over environment issues, and the public\'s involvement in
the decision-making process
- Public actions in these towns, which will address an environment
issue that is specific to each town
- A media campaign to inform, raise the awareness, and mobilize the
citizens, through commercials, brochures, flyers, articles, etc.

We are conscious that such undertaking requires responsibility, but
also new and original ideas.

This is why we are asking your cooperation in such an important initiative.
During the following days, we would like to invite you to think about
this initiative. We would be glad if you gave us suggestions about
products, which we will produce during this environment campaign.

Eligibility

* Applicants must be citizens of and resident in one of the following countries: Eastern Adriatic: Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo (which is at present under United Nations administration), the Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Montenegro (which is part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia), and Yugoslavia; Kazakhstan and Ukraine: Kazakhstan and Ukraine; select Islamic countries: Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Turkey.
* Applicants should be planning to return to their home country at the end of the period of study.
* All applicants must have completed at least four years of university study and have obtained, or expect to obtain, the appropriate degree(s), no later than September 2006.
* Applicants must be between 23 and 35 years of age on October 1, 2006.
* Applicants must demonstrate the potential to become leaders, decision makers, and opinion formers in their home country. This requirement is of considerable importance in the selection process, and applicants should be sure to complete Section 9 of the application form fully and appropriately.
* Applicants will be required to have passed an English proficiency test (TOEFL or IELTS) before being offered a scholarship. The minimum requirement for some of the courses available is TOEFL 600 (250 in the computer-based test) or IELTS 7.0; however most courses require the higher minimum requirement of IELTS 7.5, and some IELTS 8.0. Please refer to the University of Cambridge Graduate Studies Prospectus at www.admin.cam.ac.uk/univ/gsprospectus/ for further details.
* Applicants will normally be expected to have some relevant work experience.

A preference will go towards applicants who have not studied previously outside of their home countries.
Ineligibility

The following applicants are ineligible to apply:

* employees of British Embassies, the British Council and local Soros foundations who are directly involved in the administration of scholarships;
* those who have received a scholarship funded by the British government within the previous three years.

Application Process & Deadlines

All applicants must complete the OSI/FCO Chevening Scholarship Application and return it to the scholarship coordinators in their home countries by February 28, 2006. All applicants must also send the Scholarship Application Form to the Cambridge Trusts by February 28, 2006.

All applicants must also complete a Graduate Application Form and return it to the Board of Graduate Studies at Cambridge by the general deadline of January 31, 2006. However, if a course deadline is earlier, the Graduate Application Forms must be returned to the Board of Graduate Studies to meet that deadline. Please consult the website of the University of Cambridge to learn about each course deadline.

Applicants from Bangladesh (there is only one deadline for applicants from Bangladesh—February 28, 2006—please submit both your scholarship application form and graduate admissions form to the scholarship coordinator) and Pakistan are advised to contact the British Council Offices in their countries to return copies of their application materials.
Selection Process

Applications for admission to the university will be considered by the Board of Graduate Studies (the graduate admitting authority of the University).

Short-listed applicants for Economics, Economics and Development or Finance will be required to take a GRE test. This will be arranged by the local Soros foundation/Advising Center; the British Council Offices in Bangladesh and Pakistan respectively.
