FUNDAMENTALS OF THE EU

This course will provide participants with a detailed insight into the
working mechanisms of the European Union. The course will familiarise
the participant with key events and major treaty developments. It will
also focus on the EU’s institutional set up and will analyse key EU
policies and their impact on European societies.
The course will be of particular interest to representatives from the
regional, county and local level of public administrations. However,
other sectors are also invited including business, finance, the media, or
members of non-governmental organisations.
No prior knowledge on the EU is required in order to join.

2. Summer School for EU beginners
EXPLAINING THE EUROPEAN UNION

June 27 – July 1, 2005
Course fee: 175 Euro
Hotel: around 30 Euro per night (halfboard) per person
The summer school is designed specifically for those with no prior
knowledge about European affairs and will be held in Vrboska on the
beautiful island of Hvar. The summer school will provide participants with a
detailed insight into the working mechanisms of the EU. It sets out by
establishing the parameters of the EU’s political and economic
integration processes, followed by detailed analyses of the main institutions.
The course then addresses key policies and their impact on European
societies.
The course will be of particular interest to representatives from such
sector as business, finance, the media, and public administration, but
also to teachers and university students, or indeed to any
representative from civil society. No prior knowledge on the EU is required.

3. Summer Academy for the Legal Profession

Course fee: 275 Euro

This course offers an introduction into EU law – ranging from the
Single Market and competition, to such issues as citizenship and
constitutionalism. The course is designed for the legal profession in its widest
sense, including lawyers, public officials, representatives from the
private sector, as well as university students.
The course will be taught by Damian Chalmers and Dr Martin Lodge (both
London School of Economics), and by Dr Iyiola Solanke (University of
East Anglia).

CURRENT ACTIVITIES
1. Training for civil servants: in collaboration with the British
Council in Skopje/Macedonia, Spring 2005 to Spring 2006. For further

2. Becoming an Expert on the EU: three-modular training in north Cyprus
in collaboration with the British High Commission, Cyprus.
Between February 2001 and Spring 2005 some 1200 people in north Cyprus
have received extensive EU training. Course participants included
lawyers, judges, business men and women, journalists, teachers, as well as
representatives from the public sector, political parties, trade unions
and NGO's.

3. European Union Series; in collaboration with the British Council,
Nicosia/Cyprus
EPIC contributed to the impressive EU series implemented by the British
Council. Since 2000, some 50 events have been organised which covered a

4. EU updates with the Ministry of European Integration, Croatia
Since 1999, EPIC has been privileged to work closely with this dynamic
Ministry by organising annual 3-day seminars which offer in-depth
analyses on most recent EU developments.
5. Citizenship course for 18 - 20 year olds; jointly organised with the
Croatian Ministry of European Integration, the British Council, and the
office of the EC delegation in Zagreb. Spring 2004 to Spring 2005.
